Here is a list softwares so you can create your own security suite based on freewares, this not only will secure your computer but also boost its performance.
Anti virus: Just run one antivirus on your PC, both options are great but i recommend AVG.
Registry cleaner:

Comodo firewall+avira antivir+spyware terminator all of them are free and are excellent choices. I only add spywareblaster and advanced windowscare to that combo. you can download all of them at download.com.
No PC security product can possibly protect you from every new spyware and malware threat. Some of these new threats would be undetected by most of the popular security programs, including the ones we all use. Some antivirus will detect spywares but can't delete them so don't think they don't work is just that they are not designed to solve those issues. In general, Windows does not allow the deletion of files when they are in use. However, Safe Mode will only load a minimum amount of drivers and services to run Windows, giving removal a better chance. Scan again and attempt to delete while your computer is in safe mode. Be patient because this take some time to get it done and do it at list once per month.
Don't leave your computer where people outside your window can see it. They'll break in and steal it.
Don't leave it unattended in class, your friends might steal it.
Be extra careful if your teacher looks like he is bored with his job. He will steal it!
Don't worry too much if it does get stolen. just wait for an email for a friendly nigerian billionaire. give him your bank details. he just needs it to transfer his money into a more reliable american bank. he'll give you 10%.
Software Security:
Use a password and don't tell your parents what it is. they'll find your porn, or worst still… remember those photos you took of yourself? your mom will find those.
Make a firewall. you do this by making a circle with petrol around you and your computer and set it alight. It stops people looking at you while you're surfing for porn. Keep a TCP (Tray Carrying Pizza) port open though. You'll need it when your mom brings the food. Remember to close your fly!
Yes, but my point was that the internet is so insecure, it doesn’t really matter much what you use to connect to it, because anybody can snoop on you once your packets go out over the net.
Nothing to worry. When you shut down your computer means that no communication. Without communication through network or internet, no one can hack to your computer as well as viruses, spyware, Trojans and other malicious program can get into the computer.
You'd probably, broadly speaking, be looking at Information Technology, computer engineering, things like that. They will contain the components such as internet security, HTML, Java, etc. and more in depth.
Good security can be had for free, its just not in a neat all-in-one "security suite"
For good computer security you need to do 4 things.
1. Run a firewall.
2. Use a good anti-virus with real-time protection.
3. Do a regular scan with a dedicated anti-spyware,
4. Keep Windows and all your other installed software, 100% updated and patched with all important and security updates.

My recommendations:
1. For the home user of XP or Vista, Windows Firewall is adequate, even more so if one is using a router, which is a very good firewall in itself. Make sure your Windows Firewall is turned "on".
2. For her Anti-Virus……(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict…did I mention that you MUST uninstall any and all, old anti-virus products, such as her Norton?)
I would suggest Avast, the newest version 4.8. Avast now includes anti-virus, some anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
3. For her Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs…
SUPERAntiSpyware:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
They have a free version.
4. Use Secunia PSI to insure that all her software is kept always updated and patched against vulnerabilities that are often exploited to compromise computers. Very important.
Totally removing her old Norton can be a real PITA, but it will be necessary or else conficts can occur. To completely remove Norton products, Download and run the Norton Removal Tool from the Norton / Symantec website.

WPA is now possible to crack too, under 14 minutes or so. It has to use TKIP encryption however.. If your interest, search up the name Erik Tews.
WPA2 is suggested. So is a password with special characters, and a length of at least 8 characters..
