man thats fucked up, this guy just got arrested not too long ago sometime after his defcon lecture. his adobe ebook to pdf converter software got him in trouble with the millenium digital law act or some shit.
being held without bail must be a bitch…..so would being arrested in russia and be extradicted to las vegas. going to las vegas would be cool, if you werent going there on ConAir
Security + is a good stepping stone certification – covers a lot of basic ideas that might be beneficial if you lack any security experience. If you've passed the CCNA and are thinking to get into the security field, CCSP is definitely the way to go providing you want a vendor specific certification. Otherwise CISSP or even CEH (which honestly, I don't know how in-demand this certification is).
theres white hat hackers, which are defined by teh above Hacker definition. black hat hackers/crackers are one in the same. crackers are more into breaking encryptions, making keygens, and using such to wreak havoc.
grey hat hackers are the ones that find vulnerabilities, have some fun, and then make the public disclosure.
Instead of trying to get a job working for someone else, try putting an add in your local paper, spreading the word, that you are willing to come to a person's home, or business, and setting up the security needs, that they might have..There are all kinds of possibilities that you could do..You will be surprised how many people need a service like that..Good Luck
The first thing you would need to do would be to get a job in Ireland in your field/specialty. Then have the company sponsor you when you apply for your visa. You most likely will have to demonstrate what special skills you bring that make it necessary to hire you instead of an EU citizen. Good luck!
Certs aren't as important as a degree and experience.. but if you are going to get a cert get a microsoft cert since they hold higher to most companies.

Hackers are the ones who find security flaws and notify the admins.
Crackers, are the ones that you should worry about…
